I create my dolls as little companions, and Aurelia with her cockatoo takes me back to my grandmother’s home, when rays of sunlight came through windows surrounded by flowers and I spent happy afternoons with my beloved grandmother. Those were carefree days, when the afternoons seemed as though they would never end and I imagined I would be with her forever.
Now I see my own children looking at these little figures on our nature table, creating stories and magical forests of their own. Although my dolls are decorations and not toys, I like to imagine that one day these pieces will become little heirlooms in their homes—not simply objects they remember, but reminders of afternoons that once felt eternal and of the magical forests they created in their hearts.
